Reconnecting with what and who is important

published on 24 March 2022

I had a MAD week in work, everything seemed more complex than it should be, everything seemed to take longer, and there were a few curve balls - literally! I broke my sternum at the gym when a 5kg medicine ball slammed into my chest at full force!

Suddenly I was forced to stop! Something was more important than work, PAIN!

Only then when my mind had shifted from the constant plotting and planning, I started to see what was really important to me. My health, my family and my friends. Like my wonderful friend Linda, who has been diagnosed with cancer. She could be defeated, she could have retreated, but has she? Nope! She’s come out fighting!

She got married AND she booked her funeral. Then the funeral company went bust leaving her without a funeral plan, and £1700 out of pocket. Did she give up? No! She’s come out fighting! She’s been on the local news and in the press, her friends set up a Crowd funding campaign and raised the money she lost and she’s now campaigning for others who lost their money. (see links below).

She’s inspirational and I’m so glad I got the opportunity to meet up with her this weekend to remind me of what is truly important. When we have a setback that forces us to stop we have the choice to see it as a failure or face it as an opportunity to reset, to refocus on what is important and to refuel, physically, mentally and emotionally.

As I reach the end of this week I now realise that I’ve had an opportunity to reconnect with what and who is important to me and I’m really really grateful for that, even if I am a little bit sore! Have a great weekend everyone! xx
